The Asian Consulting Group partners with the Bureau of Internal Revenue as it takes another step toward improving the ease of paying taxes. ACG Founding Chairman Mon Abrea joins the BIR’s latest project, Hack-A-Tax, as one of its ambassadors.
“To make paying taxes easier, we need to maximize technology,” says the Philippine Tax Whiz Mon Abrea, “If we can already buy our wants or book a ride or pay our bills from anywhere, then why not handle our taxes as well?”
The Hack-A-Tax project was launched on October 15, Tuesday, at the BIR National Office Building. The hackathon event is organized by the BIR and in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and DevCon Philippines.
The goal of the competition is to create an app that will simplify and streamline taxpayer registration and the filing and payment of taxes. The winning concept will receive both monetary and promotion support from the BIR.
The apps to be developed under Hack-A-Tax are expected to help taxpayers in next year’s Annual Income Tax Return (ITR) Filing on April 15.
On November 5, Atty. Lanee David will further discuss the BIR’s digital transformation at the Asian Consulting Group’s Tax Hub Talks. She will also discuss the BIR’s developments to improve the taxpayer experience.
“Improving the ease of paying taxes means making the tax system more accessible, more easily understood, especially for erring taxpayers, and encouraging them to pay the right taxes,” says the Philippine Tax Whiz. The tax expert, who also works as the Co-Chair of the Ease of Doing Business Taskforce on Paying Taxes, adds that such developments will broaden the taxpayer base.
Taxpayers can prepare in advance by learning more about these developments at the Tax Hub Talks. If you want to attend the Tax Hub Talks: Digital Transformation and Blockchain Technology on Tuesday, November 5, contact us at [email protected] or (02) 622 7720.
